I
I've seen lots of folks out there with "computer" in ther profiles so I thought it might be interesting to have a spot to talk shop, share tips, even network a little when we're looking for work or maybe someone to do something for us. I'm a VBer - 99% VB6 still, haven't made the transition to .net and don't know if I'm going to. I own a small company that writes software for truckers - from drivers to small fleets. Currently we're in the process of bringing the program to the web (my part of the WE is supervising they're over my head in this new web stuff How about you - what do you do, how do you stay connected, etc. I think it'll be fun to have a place to talk shop with other who share the freedom of the road and still keep the keyboard buzzing -------------------- John & Sheila Ewing

Satellite Internet allows us to work from anyplace I want as long as there's not a tree in the way.
We've got a Datastorm F2 and use iDirect, I have a VOIP phone system, and no it's not vonage or simular, it's a business grade system, my sales people also use the VOIP system and we can conference, page extensions, transfer calls put people on hold and they get the company hold message. nobody knows I'm not in a sticks and bricks office. -------------------- |

Ok, I'm impressed - I have a F1 and a HN7000s modem and I can't get voip with it even on a clear day with a great shot at the sat. I'm just not getting the bandwidth to give me a good voip connection. I 've tried it a couple times and it breaks up too much. I can do voip over my air card, but I think that would run the bill up real fast
iDirect - I'll have to check them out, do you know if it's the bigger dish that makes the difference or whether it's the provider? I'm with Motosat and they get their service through Hughes. -------------------- John & Sheila Ewing

I used to have an F1 with Hughes, I now have an F2 with iDirect, the main difference that I see with iDirect is latency, not the amount so much as the high and lows or jitter. VOIP can work with high latency but its the range swings that kill it.
If you run a rolling ping you can see the the range of latency, thats what kills VOIP. -------------------- |

Thanks for the info. From what I understand that F2 upgrade is both arms and half a leg, so with the economy in the tank for the moment it'll have to wait on sunnier times, but I do appreciate the info and I will look into some more. Maybe I can get a deal on a F2 from someone who needs to get rid of theirs

This is the cam I am watching right now. Even if the sensor is only S16 there are alot of possibilities with this cam. I like that it is RAW 12 bit. I like the fact that I can get S16 lenses cheaper than 35mm primes. This could be the camera that gives the SCARLET some competition. And its about 10,000.00 Complete ready to shoot, not bad. Miss SCARLET when you gonna make an appearance?
